Our Work With p:ear
THE ALTER EGOS SOCIETY IS PROUD TO SUPPORT THE NON-PROFIT, P:EAR, WITH ANNUAL FUNDRAISING COSTUME PARTIES AND WITH SALES FROM OUR MOVIE ARCHIVES OF THE FANTASTIC.
What is p:ear?
p:ear stands for “Project: Education, Art, Recretation”. The organization builds positive relationships with homeless and transitional youth, ages 15 to 24, through education, art and recreation to affirm personal worth and create more meaningful and healthier lives. Each year their programs serve more than 350 homeless and transitional young people. The organization is based in the Old Town Chinatown neighborhood of Portland, Oregon.
Why does the AES work with p:ear?
The Society’s relationship with the outreach program began with our
first costume event in late 2007. The people involved in organizing
felt that raising money for p:ear fit the spirit of the Alter Egos
Society moreso than trying to make a personal profit. Basically we really like the work they’re doing and the values they’re acting on (including the emphasis on creativity, which we could all use more of). This is one way the AES is working to give back to our community.
What can I do to help?
As part of the Alter Egos Society’s continuing dedication to p:ear’s mission, all profits from the sale and viewing of the movie ARCHIVES OF THE FANTASTIC go to support the organization. So it may sound self-serving of us to say, but one of the easiest things you can do is buy the DVD. In addition to DVD sales, our annual Fall event, Ceasefire, is a fundraiser for the mentorship program.
We encourage you to visit the p:ear website and read about their programs, events, and ways you can get involved. You might also want to become a fan of p:ear on Facebook, or follow p:ear on Twitter, too.
