Portland’s own Mayor Sam Adams will be attending the Stumptown Comics Fest this year in the guise of original superhero “SamDroid”! He will be at the Alter Egos Society booth (#206) from 3-4pm on Saturday, April 16 to pose for pictures with fest attendees and sign original art prints.

Posters of SamDroid as drawn by cartoonist Les McClaine (The Tick: New Series) will be available at the booth for $5; photos are free with a suggested donation and will be posted online. All proceeds will go to benefit local organization p:ear, who mentors at-risk and homeless youth.

The SamDroid costume is the result of a design competition held by the Alter Egos Society, and was designed by Portlander Manny McIvor, who also won a cash prize from Things From Another World as well as free admittance to all Stumptown Comics Fest events this year. McIvor’s winning design has been custom-fabricated for the Mayor by the dedicated costumers of the Alter Egos Society.

The Alter Egos Society’s 4th annual Hero/Villain Ceasefire Party is upon us! On Saturday, October 9th, heroes and villains alike will descend upon Paradise Dance Studio (at 826 SE Belmont) between the hours of 8pm and 1am for live music, contests, and games that test whether bitter enemies can become super friends. Tickets will be $7 for costumed attendees and $10 for the those not in costume. This is a once-a-year chance for super villains and superheroes to casually socialize outside of epic battle and talk to each other about their exploits!

Prizes—sponsored by Things From Another World, Excalibur Books and Comics, Floating World Comics, Guardian Games, and more—will be awarded for best costumes and powers. Headlining band for the evening will be Myrrh Larsen, with performances by The Very Foundation and DJ Tibin. There will be food, beer and liquor on hand for replenishing your energy levels after heated battles. We ask that attendees dress as an original character and not someone from comics or movies; the costume can be as simple or as elaborate as you want. All profits from the sale of tickets, drinks, DVD sales and t-shirts will be donated to p:ear.
