Alter Egos Society’s 5th Annual Hero/Villain Ceasefire 2011

Once a year…

…the heroes and villains of Portland, Oregon set aside their weaponized superpowers and their moral differences for a single night of drinking, dancing, and superpowered high-fives. That night, known to some as the Alter Egos Society’s Hero/Villain Ceasefire, is soon to return for a fifth year… On November 12, heroes, villains, sidekicks, minions, and ambivalent masterminds alike will descend upon Ella St. Social Club united under a single cause: charity!

Our annual Ceasefire event is half party, half charity fundraiser for our favorite non-profit group, p:ear. The Alter Egos Society long ago decided that if we are to party, we shall party for a cause, and p:ear’s work with at-risk and homeless youth is heroic indeed! A portion of the evening’s proceeds will be donated to p:ear, including sales of raffle entries, DVDs of our original short film, Archives of the Fantastic, and proceeds from all tiers of online ticket sales!

November 12, 2011, 8:00pm-1:00am
Ella St. Social Club, 714 SW 20th Place
Tickets starts at $10

This year we’re selling tickets online through the AES website, via PayPal (it has the lowest fees, meaning you pay less and p:ear gets more!). We also have tiered event packages to help raise even more money for p:ear: options include AES swag, sponsor prizes, and even a professional photoshoot! All event packages are general admission.

Music, Contests, and more

- Live music! We’ll be serenaded by nerdy and saucy sister act The Doubleclicks, and the autonomous android duo Robot Uprise will bring the dance tunes.
- Costume contests! Categories in the past have included Best Hero, Best Villain, and Best Overall Costume, though we’ve been known to make up categories on the spot… so bring out your best spandex and tights!
- Raffles! Prizes for the raffles as well as the costume contests have been donated by our amazing sponsors: Bridge City Comics, Cacophonous Creations, Ground Kontrol, Guardian Games, Jupiter Hotel, PDX Yar, Sock Dreams, and Things From Another World.
- Video Games! A few stations of appropriately themed classic console games will be provided by Ground Kontrol… which means tournaments! And prizes! Game list TBA.
- Also some drinking, and maybe even eating! Ella St. has a full bar and an excellent menu of food (real food, not onion rings!)
- Dancing. Did we mention the dancing? You should come and dance!

Super Attire Recommended

If you plan on attending the Ceasefire, we do have one small request: we ask that you attend costumed as a superhero or super villain of your own creation. Seriously! We know Batman and Wonder Woman personally, and we know you’re not them. It’s okay if you don’t have a solid origin story or your mask is a little loose, we won’t judge! But creative costuming is at the core of the Alter Egos Society; after all “wearing tights and capes, having fun for a better world” is our motto! And remember: it’s for the children.

Can I still attend if I don’t buy a ticket online?

We can’t guarantee any tickets will be available at the door. Ella St. has a max capacity of ~130 people and we’re going to sell as many tickets beforehand as possible. The added bonus to buying a ticket now is that you get free raffle tickets. Those will be available at the event too, but they’ll cost $1 each. And seriously, did you get a look at that sponsor list?! Our raffle prizes often exceed $100 retail value per prize, and contain goodies like comic books, board games, and gift certificates. Getting a ticket now is a totally super idea!

About the Alter Egos Society

The Alter Egos Society is comprised of a collection of artists, writers, and other superhero enthusiasts who have lent their time and efforts to working on costume-related projects in the Portland, Oregon area. Founded in 2007 by Benja Barker, the AES has produced a series of video shorts, started two annual costumed events, and released an amateur short film. Part of the mission of the Alter Egos Society is to explore the various mythos of superhero genres through costume making, role playing, film making and other forms of storytelling. In no way does the Alter Egos Society condone donning costumes to engage in anonymous vigilante activities.
