There is now just over two days before the Ceasefire… oof! You’ve dropped off your cape at the dry cleaner’s for pressing, yes? And your mask is at the tailor’s to have the elastic refitted? You gotta look your best for the costume contest, after all, and nothing will vex your arch nemesis more than a well-tailored supersuit!

We wanted to take this opportunity to make sure you have all the last minute details you’ll need to have a fun evening. Here we go!

Our Venue: Ella St. Social Club

First off, it’s important to note that Ella St. is a CASH ONLY venue! They do have an ATM right next to the bar in case you run out of paper funds. Ella St.’s full bar and tasty menu aren’t the only ways to spend your cash… our performers The Doubleclicks and Robot Uprise will both have CDs for purchase, and the AES will have our awesome array of swag as well. And don’t forget to tip the bartender!

Ella St. Social Club is located at 714 SW 20th Place, right next to Jeld-Wen Field (what used to be PGE Park). The bar doesn’t really have any signs up, which lends quite well to its rather “villainous lair” ambiance (hopefully there will be some righteous heroes in attendance to balance out the evil vibe!). We’ll try to have the front marked as a superpower-friendly establishment so that you know you’re at the right place. Also, it looks like this at night:

See where it says "Lounge"? That's Ella St. Social Club!

Look, here’s a useful map! Click the “View Larger Map” link below to open Google Maps in a new tab/window.

Parking in the area is your usual downtown streetside affair, and the Red and Blue MAX lines let out just a couple blocks away if you’d rather park-and-ride (Please drive responsibly!!)

Tickets: Presale and Night Of

If you have not yet purchased your ticket, don’t fret! We should have enough available at the door for everyone to get in and party for a good cause. But! You won’t get free raffle tickets, or discounts on AES things like tshirts, DVDs, and patches, if you buy your ticket at the door… those goodies are only for pre-purchased tickets! And you really, really want those raffle tickets: these are just some of the prizes you’ll have a chance to win!

If you have already purchased your ticket: YOU ARE AWESOME! Thank you! All online ticket buyers will be on our door list, and you can pick up your raffle tickets on your way into the event.

We will be checking IDs of all superheroes and supervillains in attendance and confirming that you are registered as 21 Earth years or older, so make sure to have yours in an easy-to-access pouch on your utility belt!

Okay guys and gals, that seems to be it! We’ll be posting another prize-roundup tomorrow, and are finalizing details with Ground Kontrol regarding the video game consoles we’ll have on loan for the evening. If you have any questions about the event, you can email info@alteregossociety.com, or ask us via Facebook or Twitter. We’ll see you on Saturday!

In the weeks since we originally posted info about our upcoming Hero/Villain Ceasefire, we’ve sold a few tickets, gotten a few new sponsors, and confirmed one or two new wonderful (surprise!) guests. Things are looking good for our 5th annual Ceasefire!

Speaking of sponsors: we have prizes! Oh, the prizes we have! Check out the picture below… a neon sign, all sorts of games, drinking vessels, graphic novels, and gift certificates galore! Our sponsors continue to amaze us; thank you so much to the businesses who have lent our event their support.

These are some seriously awesome prizes!

You can find a full list of sponsors and links to their websites on the Hero/Villain Ceasefire 2011 page.

Prizes will be given out to costume contest winners and through raffle drawings. Remember: you can buy your event ticket online to get free raffle tickets! They’ll also be available for purchase at the Ceasefire for $1/ticket or $5/6 tickets. All proceeds from door and raffle ticket sales will be going to p:ear.

It’s not too late to buy tickets; we’ll be selling them online until the day before the event, and limited quantities will be available at the door. Ella St. Social Club is a smaller venue than we’ve partied at before, so buying your ticket now ensures you’ll get to rub elbows with Portland’s superhero (and villain) elite!

And, egads, the Ceasefire is nigh! November 12 is just barely over a week away. The intrepid heroes and villains among you were surely prepared before Halloween, but if not hopefully the festively costumed holiday got you thinking about your super gear and persona… We don’t require anything terribly elaborate, just as long as the character is of your own design. It’s all about having fun and exploring hero and villain archetypes, whether that means you’ve been busily stitching spandex or you plan on just tying a towel around your neck. Mutants, aliens, biomechanically-enhanced humans; the Alter Egos Society accepts all super types!

Today we’ve got even more exciting news for you… This year we’re doing online ticket sales to our annual fundraiser for p:ear, and ticket sales are LIVE!

The team at AES Headquarters is really looking forward to this year’s event, and we’ve been working hard on planning a great evening for you. We’ll have live music performed by The Doubleclicks and Robot Uprise (that means dancing!), contests for best costumes and super powers, raffle prizes, even video games! For all the information about this year’s Ceasefire fundraising event, and a full list of our awesome sponsors, check out the main event page: Alter Egos Society’s 5th Annual Hero/Villain Ceasefire 2011.

One of the coolest things about our fundraiser this year is that we’ve created tiered event packages to help raise even more money for p:ear’s youth mentorship program. Tickets start at $10 and go on to include Alter Egos Society swag, prize bags from our sponsors, even a professional photoshoot of your super persona! We thought this would be a fun way to encourage attendees to give more while still getting something fun in the deal. And it’s the perfect opportunity to pick up some of our awesome swag if you haven’t already!

If you’ve never attended an Hero/Villain Ceasefire, here’s the low-down: Our annual fall event is half party, half charity fundraiser for our favorite non-profit group, p:ear. We ask that you attend costumed as a superhero or super villain (or sidekick, minion, ambivalent mastermind, etc.)of your own creation; it’s okay if you don’t have a solid origin story or your mask is a little loose. We won’t judge! Just come out, have fun, and help us raise money for a great cause.

We’ll see you there!

We at the Alter Egos Society headquarters have had an exciting summer and we have met many new people as a result. If you are one of them, hello, and welcome! We hope you, too, will soon join our ranks of heroes, villains, crusaders, madmen, do-gooders, meddlers, and unaffiliated henchmen.

Those familiar with our work might have noticed that while we’ve been gallivanting about town our website has had a bit of a slow period, and we are sorry about that. We’re touched that you noted our absence from this corner of the interwebs! But you’ve probably instead been keeping up with our capers via our Facebook Page and our Twitter… if not, now’s a good time to start.

This post is but a brief update to let you know that we are done with our fun in the sunny summer fun (well, what bit of “summer” Portland was gifted with), and are getting back down to business. Not to be a tease, but we have some VBT (Very Big Things) planned for The Society… and we think you’re going to be mighty pleased. And if you aren’t, well, some of the more nefarious members of our group might want to have words with you. Just sayin’!

If you’re reading this in your feed reader, you might want to click through to the main website. It is an ever-changing digital base with more changes on the way. One new thing we’ve added is an event calendar on the sidebar to let you know what’s coming up. (This very weekend we’re tabling at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo, and hosting their Cosplay Contest on Sunday!) There’s also some quick-and-easy social buttons on each post and page to let you Like, Plus, Tweet or otherwise share our masked shenanigans within your own sphere of influence.

And yes, you’ve heard it right: our 5th Annual Hero/Villain Ceasefire (a fundraising event for p:ear) is on November 12… meaning you have just over a month to prep your costumes! More news on that in the coming week.

So again, welcome to our new fans and future members, and hello to our long-time friends. Please watch this space for news and announcements…

He will be at the Alter Egos Society booth (#206) from 3-4pm on Saturday, April 16 to pose for pictures with fest attendees and sign original art prints.

Posters of SamDroid as drawn by cartoonist Les McClaine (The Tick: New Series) will be available at the booth for $5; photos are free with a suggested donation and will be posted online. All proceeds will go to benefit local organization p:ear, who mentors at-risk and homeless youth.

The SamDroid costume is the result of a design competition held by the Alter Egos Society, and was designed by Portlander Manny McIvor, who also won a cash prize from Things From Another World as well as free admittance to all Stumptown Comics Fest events this year. McIvor’s winning design has been custom-fabricated for the Mayor by the dedicated costumers of the Alter Egos Society.

Dust off your gauntlets and shine up your blaster guns for the fourth annual Alter Egos Society POWER STRUGGLE! On April 9th, heroes and villains will face off both in the bars and on the streets of Portland to see who is the fiercest, toughest, and most fashionable.

The Power Struggle pub crawl will start off at 4pm with heroes and villains overtaking two different bars in close-in downtown. Starting locations will be announced …in the week prior to the event. After a few pints of liquid courage at their respective starting points, leaders of each faction will march participants to a to-be-disclosed location for some humorous battles of will and might. The costumed adventurers will eventually find their way to a couple more bars and perhaps one last battle for glory before the night is over.

In 2010 the heroes won the day, both in competition and in numbers; who will be the victor at this year’s Power Struggle?

REMEMBER: Original costumes only please! None of you are Batman or Wonder Woman and we’ll know it. There will be a costume contest with categories including most creative, best hero and best villain, and best overall with winners being announced at the end of the evening. Prizes for all competitions are being provided by our sponsors, including Stumptown Comics Fest, Guardian Games, HorrOregon, Ground Kontrol, PDX Yar, and more.

Manny McIvor of Portland submitted the winning design, earning tickets to Stumptown Comics Fest and a cash prize. His costume, named “Samdroid” (above), will be fabricated by The Alter Egos Society and worn by the Mayor on April 16th at the comics fest, held at the Oregon Convention Center. The costumed Mayor will pose for pictures with fest attendees at the Alter Egos Society booth from 3-4pm to help raise money for p:ear, a local non-profit whose mission is to mentor homeless youth. Many super designs were submitted, including “Comic Man” by first runner up Mara, a 5th grade member of the Sunnyside Comic Club.

Project Mayor-Man is presented by Stumptown Comics Fest and The Alter Egos Society, and is sponsored by comics retailer Things From Another World.
Setting the stage for a quest of epic proportions, Mayor Sam Adams is scheduled to attend Stumptown Comics Fest 2011, and he needs the city’s help to make sure he appears in a suitable superhero alter ego!

Operating as code name: PROJECT MAYOR-MAN, the minds behind the Stumptown Comics Fest and the Alter Egos Society have teamed up to clad our good sport of a mayor in proper attire, and they seek the creative minds of Portland to help design the right costume concept.

“Portland’s designers are up to this challenge,” said Benja Barker, founder of the Alter Egos Society. “This challenge will highlight the incredible creative talent we have in Portland, from the fashion industry to the visual arts community and beyond.”

The quest to design our mayor’s original superhero costume will begin February 1 and run through the month, with submissions closing on February 28.

Attendees will have the opportunity to have their picture taken with the costumed mayor as well as purchase prints featuring Mayor Sam Adams in his original superhero costume, with proceeds going to benefit the local non-profit p:ear, which provides services for homeless and transitional youth.

The winning designer will have free access to all Stumptown Comics Fest events, with additional prizes to be announced.

The top PROJECT MAYOR-MAN designs will be announced March 7th, with the winning costume design turned over to the talented costumers of the Alter Egos Society for fabrication.

More information and contest details will be posted as available.
